LALO keeps its focus on blanco.

The LALO brand guide

LALO makes an unaged tequila with Highland agave and Champagne yeast. Choose the regular 40% bottle or the 2025 High Proof at 50%; the older 2024 release was stronger still.

The brand

LALO concentrates on tequila blanco

Eduardo “Lalo” González, David “R” Carballido and Jim McDermott co-founded LALO. González and Carballido grew up as friends in Mexico. González’s family tradition of tequila making and Carballido’s production career helped shape a blanco made for a family wedding, the starting point described in LALO’s story.

Blanco is the point of the range. The core US bottle is 40% ABV / 80 proof. The currently advertised High Proof is the 2025 edition at 50% ABV / 100 proof, while the original 2024 High Proof was 54% / 108 proof. There is no reposado or añejo in the advertised range checked on 4 October 2026.

The core bottle is the less expensive way to try LALO’s approach or make a Margarita or Paloma. High Proof offers a different strength and specific production claim: LALO says the 2025 edition is distilled to proof, with no water added after distillation. Read the 2024, 2025 and core Blanco comparison before treating every High Proof listing as the same bottle.

Three ingredients

Mature agave, Champagne yeast and deep-well water

LALO steams mature Highland Azul agave (A. tequilana) in brick ovens for 20–32 hours, followed by up to 18 hours resting. A roller mill extracts the sweet juice from the cooked fibers. Fermentation with Champagne yeast takes three to four days, then the tequila is distilled twice.

Deep-well water is part of the production. The core blanco is brought to 40% ABV for bottling; the 2025 High Proof release has a separate distilled-to-proof process at 50%, with no water added after distillation. Neither current expression is barrel aged.

LALO Blanco, Mijenta Blanco and Teremana Blanco

In our October US check, Mijenta Blanco was around $40 and Teremana Blanco around $32, against LALO at $39–45. LALO’s distinguishing choices are its blanco focus and Champagne yeast.

All three blancos are unaged and bottled at 40% ABV for the US. For more strength within LALO, the 2025 High Proof is 50% ABV; the edition matters because the 2024 release was 54%.
